Why Get Your Bike Fit?

The vast majority of bicyclists are simply unaware that there is a better, more comfortable, and safer way.  Longtime, experienced, high mileage cyclists or even racers are squirming around on their saddles and putting themselves at risk of over-use injuries.   And worst of all, they are going slower and working more than they need too.  A proper bike fit addresses these issues with:

  • Toe Numbness
  • Arch Soreness
  • Foot hotspots
  • Knee Pain
  • Saddle issues (numbness in your gentler areas)
  • Lower Back pain
  • Upper Back pain (e.g. in between shoulder blades)
  • Elbow Pain
  • Hand Pain (e.g. palm soreness)
  • Numb Fingers
  • etc. etc. (there are so many)

Interested but not entirely sure?

Use this form to ask for any clarification you might need.  I'll answer you directly.

When you ask a question do you'll get an email asking if you'd like to sign up for my email list. About once every two months I send out info on fitting, testimonials and the occasional discount.  Don't worry, you won't be signed up unless you ask to be.

What Is A Bike Fit

What Is A Bike Fit

Most simply put, a bike fit is adjusting your bike to your body.  You have only 5 contact points on your bike: your feet, hands, and rear end.   If those parts of your body are being coerced away from where they can be comfortable you will develop problems as the miles add up.

Possible adjustments on a bike include:

  • Saddle Height
  • Saddle Fore/Aft
  • Saddle Choice
  • Handlebar height
  • Stem length/angle
  • Cleat position fore/aft
  • Cleat position medial/lateral
  • Varus/valgus cleat wedging
  • Heel Position
  • Other minor things (saddle tilt, hood direction, etc etc)

Bio

My name is Alfonso Lopez.  I began cycling as a massively overweight college student in Austin Texas.  I had no car and needed to get around.  That short 2-3 mile commute became an unbelievably slippery slope.  I took up longer distances, mountain biking, century rides, triathlon and, eventually, straight up bike racing. I absolutely love the cycling world and I have spent the last 12 years talking about it to anyone who will listen.

As you can imagine a 6'4'', 210lb road racer knows quite a bit about where a bike can hurt.  I am on the bike 150-200 miles a week.  If it can hurt, I've felt it hurt.  Ask me about my first STP when you get a chance. I dare you.

Over 10 or so years I had experimented with my fit and thought I had it dialed in.  I could go long distance with mild discomfort and I thought I was the bee's knees.  Then about 2 years ago a fellow Cycle-U/Apex racing member trained in the BikeFit system and practiced on us.

My entire world (on the bike) changed.

It's that simple.  After 10 years of knowing I had my bike setup properly I was introduced to a completely different experience on the bike.  It was night and day.

I want to provide that wonderful experience to other cyclists.  Grizzled old veterans like me or fresh faced fair weather commuters, everyone deserves to feel this way on a bike.  o shoot me an email, or give me call. I am insufferably excited to fit your bike to your body!
